This week’s Amazon Upfronts message was, in the words of one observer, that 2026 is the year of “outcomes” — and Amazon Ads is well-positioned to capitalize. The headline announcement: an integration between Samsung Ads and Amazon DSP that brings Amazon’s interactive video ad tech to Samsung TV Plus beginning this summer, with viewers seeing “add to cart” buttons for products visible on-screen that are also sold on Amazon.
This is not an experiment. It’s a productized retail-media-meets-CTV convergence at scale.
01What’s launching
- “Add to Cart” overlays on Samsung TV Plus content. Viewers will be able to send products from on-screen scenes directly to their Amazon cart from the remote.
- Prime Video Insights (in beta). A measurement product that lets advertisers blend first-party data with Prime Video viewership signals to map which genres, shows, or audiences led to actual sales.
- Amazon Audiences extending to Netflix via Amazon DSP in Q2 in the U.S. (separately announced — see our Netflix piece earlier this week.)
02The strategic frame
Amazon is doing something the rest of the CTV market has been talking about for five years: collapsing attention, intent, and conversion into a single primetime moment. The cart action is the conversion. The screen time is the attention. The product placement is the intent.
For premium publishers — including streaming-tier publishers — three things just changed:
1. CTV ad units that can’t close the loop will be discounted. When the same advertiser can buy a Samsung TV Plus impression with an add-to-cart button, why would they pay an equivalent CPM for a 15-second video that ends with “visit our website”? They won’t, for long.
2. First-party commerce data is now the table-stakes input. Publishers without commerce signals (purchase data, affiliate conversion data, retail data partnerships) have a measurement gap when competing against an Amazon-shaped buy.
3. “OEM as ad surface” is now the default model. Samsung is monetizing the device, not just the apps on the device. LG, Vizio, Roku, Hisense, TCL, and Apple are watching closely. Publishers operating CTV apps on these platforms should expect tighter OEM-mediated ad ecosystems and lower direct revenue share.
The Amazon × Samsung integration is the clearest sign yet that the old separation between "ads" and "commerce" no longer holds in CTV.
03What publishers should do now
04What marketers should do
05The bottom line
The Amazon × Samsung integration is the clearest sign yet that the old separation between “ads” and “commerce” no longer holds in CTV. Premium publishers who can plug into commerce — directly or via partners — keep their seat at the upfront table. Those who can’t will find their CPMs benchmarked against shoppable inventory they can’t match.
Summer is closer than it looks.
