Reach TV, the Stagwell-owned airport network built from CNN’s 2021 in-airport acquisition, is selling its screens across 2,400 airport gates and 500,000 hotel rooms the same way a CTV app sells inventory: direct deals, private marketplaces, and open DSP/SSP auctions. Under new leadership — CEO Rachel Jacobson and COO Dave Olesnevich, both hired in April — the network reaches 51 million travelers monthly and is leaning into a Fox Sports partnership carrying all 104 FIFA World Cup matches as its programming anchor.

01Why this matters for publishers and buyers

This is new programmatic CTV supply, not a DOOH curiositySelling airport screens through the same DSP/SSP auction mechanics as connected TV means buyers can plan Reach TV alongside their existing CTV lines rather than as a separate out-of-home budget.
The targeting data is unusually precise for out-of-homeReach TV layers TSA travel patterns, mobile location data, credit bureau data, and Nielsen ratings to target a population that is 2.7x more likely to travel for business and shows luxury-goods purchasing 25–47% higher than the general population.
Measurement is still the weak pointPerformance reporting leans on brand lift, impressions, and man-on-the-street testimonials rather than shoppable video or closed-loop attribution — the same measurement gap CTV as a whole is still working through.
World Cup programming is the demand driver, not the screens themselvesA live-sports anchor tenant is what turns a captive-audience network into inventory brand buyers will actually plan against at scale.

    02What publishers should do

    03The bottom line

Reach TV’s real move isn’t the World Cup deal — it’s routing airport screens through the same DSP/SSP plumbing that sells connected TV, turning a captive-audience out-of-home network into programmatic CTV supply buyers can plan alongside their existing lines. As more contextually-precise, non-traditional screens get sold this way, publisher-side CTV teams should expect the definition of “CTV inventory” buyers are comparing against to keep widening.
