Amazon has launched Alexa+ Agentic Ads, a new format where a shopper can see an ad, ask Alexa questions about it, weigh options, and complete the purchase — all inside a single conversation, without ever leaving the ad. Running in beta on Echo Show devices, with a visual component on the screen, early testers include Papa John’s and The Orchard (a Sony ticketing subsidiary). It’s not generally available yet and pricing isn’t public — but it’s the clearest picture yet of where advertising is heading: the ad and the transaction collapsing into the same moment.

    01What “agentic” actually means here

For two decades the funnel had stages: an ad created awareness, a click sent you somewhere, a landing page did the selling, a checkout closed the deal. Agentic ads erase the gaps. You ask, “What’s a good gluten-free pizza near me?” Alexa surfaces a sponsored answer, you ask a follow-up, and you buy — one conversation, zero page loads, zero open web. The AI agent is salesperson, comparison engine, and cashier at once. Amazon, already a ~$70 billion ad business, is the natural first mover because it owns the assistant, the catalog, the payment, and the fulfillment.

    02Why marketers should care

The ad and the transaction collapse into one momentAlexa+ Agentic Ads let a shopper see an ad, ask about it, weigh options and complete the purchase inside a single conversation. Running in beta on Echo Show with early testers including Papa John's and The Orchard. There is no click and no landing page, so most of what you measure today does not apply.
Conversational creative is a different disciplineThe unit is not a headline and an image; it is what the assistant says when asked a follow-up. That copy is a brand asset and it needs the same review as any other.
The line between organic and paid recommendation gets blurryWhen an assistant recommends and sells in the same breath, disclosure rules are still being written — and the advertiser is usually the party they land on.
Alexa+ Agentic Ads is small today — a closed beta on one device line.

    03What marketers should do

    04The bottom line

Alexa+ Agentic Ads is small today — a closed beta on one device line. But it’s a blueprint, and Amazon has every incentive to scale it. The lesson for publishers is the same one that’s been building all year, now in sharper relief: as AI agents take over discovery and the ad becomes the checkout, the open web’s traditional role in the purchase journey can simply be routed around. Plan for a world where being chosen by the agent matters more than being found by the click.
